An Old Chestnut

A mature chestnut tree growing alone in a shade form rather than a forest canopy form, just behind a road in the foreground, and with a forest behind it, though the chestnut stands alone in grass

This is a chestnut tree I saw in at Glenns Valley Nature Park this summer. Based on its size it’s perhaps 30-40 years old, and given it hasn’t been affected by chestnut blight, it is probably a hybrid cultivar. It has fed many insects with its catkins and housed many birds in its boughs and deer and other animals have certainly fattened up for the winter on its chestnuts.

Anyway, I spent the week looking for work, rather than writing about something more involved. It is a nice tree, though.
